What is a SFP?
SFP’s are small form-factor pluggable devices, designed for use with small form factor (SFF) connectors, and offer high speed and physical compactness. SFP’s compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for data communication applications. These small metal devices plug into a special switch slot and support communication over either fibre optic or copper networking cable.
How do SFP Modules differ?
SFP transceivers are expected to perform at data speeds of up to ten gigabits per second and possibly higher. Because SFP modules can be easily interchanged, electro-optical or fibre optic networks can be upgraded and maintained more conveniently than has been the case with traditional soldered-in modules.
Rather than purchasing OEM SFP’s, which can result in a substantial costs, both in maintenance and initial cost, it is worth considering a different brand SFP Module. Due to the reliability and performance renowned of OEM SFP’s, that are well-known for hardware at a certain high-end price point, OEM SFP’s are typically priced higher than some businesses and organisations can afford to spend.
However, due to the overwhelming popularity of OEM SFP products with companies operating in the data and communications sector, we provide a wide range of alternative SFP Modules, operable with industry leading hardware. Alternative SFP Module products are substantially cheaper than their OEM alternatives, however this reduction in financial cost does not result in an inferior performance or operational efficiency. This is because our SFP Modules are manufactured to the same high standards in order to ensure the same high results as OEM equivalents.
What are the benefits?
- Alternative SFP transceivers are hot-swappable and can be replaced/removed without disrupting the running device or any reboot requirement.
- There’s a significant price difference between our SFP Modules and OEM SFP’s, meaning that SFP’s are now at an affordable price point for many businesses.
- Alternative SFP modules make the fibre optic or Ethernet network easier to upgrade or maintain since users can replace a single SFP module during the process instead of replace the whole board with many modules on it.
- Any brand of SFP offers flexibility to allow design modification to the network or phased changes in network.
What difference does a different brand of SFP make?
We are often asked, how does the difference in cost not equate to a similar difference in quality? We can do this as all our stocked SFP Modules are distributed to us by the same international ISO 9001 / 14001 facilities as used by internationally leading brands; but only being based online means we can deliver the same modules at a portion of the cost; yet ensure the delivery of the same high quality product. Plus, to prove how much confidence we have in the products we sell, all our products come with a full lifetime warranty, covering any unforeseen eventuality.
